Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received February 28.)
(No. 63.) (Telegraphic.) P.
WITH reference to my telegram No. 35 of the 11th instant, I have received the
Peking, February 28, 1911. following telegram from Sir A. Hosie, dated yesterday, from Chengtu :--
"I shall proceed in a few days to Yunnan and Kweichow as soon as I have completed my report on Szechuan.
"I have been travelling overland for thirty-four days through what were in past years the chief opium-producing centres of Szechuan and through many other districts which I know from previous visits to have been areas which produced opium on a large scale.
From personal investigation in these districts and information gathered in regard to others I am satisfied that the season of 1910-11 has seen the successful suppression of the cultivation of opium in Szechuan."
